Cooperation with Karlsruhe Research Centre

Cooperation between the Faculty of Science, Chiang Mai University and Karlsruhe Research Centre (FZK) , Federal Republic of Germany, is continuing. In May, 1997, the Dean, Faculty of Science, went on a study tour and engaged in academic discussions with the administrators of the Institute for Technical Chemistry and the Institute for Nuclear Recycling Technology of FZK. This was supported by the National Research Council. Further more a training programme on “ Nuclear and Related Analytical Techniques in Water Quality Monitoring” was held from 3-21 November, 1997, at the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science. This training programme was attended by 12 participants from 12 countries. Speakers included Dr. S. Moebius and Dr. H. Geckeis fron FZK, Prof. G.R. Choppin (who played a role in the discovery of Element 103) from Florida State University, USA, as well as speakers from Thailand.
